Getting GST registration is mandatory if your sales exceed the threshold limit. It is also required if you want to take up government contracts. However, it is advisable to get GST registration even if you are below the threshold limit as it helps in keeping track of your input tax credit and reduces business cost.

The process of registering a GST dealer can be done online by visiting the official website of the GST portal. Once you have opened the GST portal, click on the 'search taxpayer' tab on the homepage to find the option to register yourself. Once you have clicked on the option, follow the on-screen instructions to fill in all the necessary details.

Once you have filled in all the necessary information, you will be asked to upload some documents to verify your identity. Uploading all the required documents is essential as it helps in ensuring that you are a genuine dealer. Once all the documents are uploaded, you can complete the registration process by clicking on the 'successfully registered' button.

You can now use your GST number to file your returns. If you are a regular taxpayer, you will have to file GSTreturns monthly. If you are a composition taxpayer, you will have to file GST returns quarterly. The good thing about GST filing is that it can be automated and will save you a lot of time. However, it is important to note that if you submit any incorrect information, then your return may be rejected. Therefore, it is imperative to check your GSTIN regularly.
