In India, the entity can get an LEI from a Local Operating Unit (LOU) that is authorized by the Global LEI Foundation (GLEIF). LOUs validate all reference data and issue an LEI to the entity. The LOUs are required to check each LEI against reliable sources (public official data, business registries, private legal documents) before publishing them and their associated reference data. They charge a fee for issuing an LEI and each yearly renewal.
